Exam format
Canada Y.C. Music Academy is affiliated with the BC Ministry of Education, is supported by all three levels of Canadian government, and is an officially recognized school offering Chinese traditional instruments. Graded exams give learners of Chinese instruments around the world clear goals and staged certification. Outstanding candidates may be admitted to the Academy without an entrance exam.
In-person exam
Judged on site at Canada Y.C. Music Academy. The Academy provides guzheng and yangqin; please bring your own for other instruments.
Repertoire requirements
- Perform one étude and one piece from memory.
- No accompaniment of any kind.
- Each instrument has Levels 1–10. Candidates may enter consecutive levels in the same exam period but may not skip levels: a Level 3 candidate may take Levels 4, 5 and 6 in turn, but not Level 5 directly.

- Record in bright light, facing the camera at a distance that keeps the performer and instrument fully in frame.
- No cosmetic editing, including cutting or splicing of picture or sound. Audio must be recorded live and perfectly in sync.
- MP4 format, 1280×720p or 720×576p.
- Put both videos in one folder named “Candidate name + level” and upload it to a cloud drive.
- Share the folder with a link that never expires (add an access code if your drive supports one) and copy the link.
- Submitted videos are not returned.

- Submit the registration formPrepare candidate details, piece titles and a video link for online exams, then register directly on this website.
- Confirm the amount and payWait for staff to confirm the amount due, pay using your registration reference and retain the receipt.
- RegisteredOnce your submission is confirmed, you can start preparing.
- PreparePrepare online or in person according to the exam requirements.
- Take the examComplete the online video exam or the in-person exam as scheduled.
- ReviewAfter the exam period, results are reviewed over about 15 days; the official email notice prevails.
- ResultsWatch for an official email from the Academy with your results.
- CertificatesWhen certificates are ready, parents are notified to collect or receive them.
Terms
- Canada Y.C. Music Academy, the organizer, reserves the right to interpret these rules.
- The organizer may record, use, reproduce and publish video of all candidates.
- Changes to a submitted registration form carry a $20 fee.
- Every candidate and parent agrees to waive the right to bring legal action against Canada Y.C. Music Academy and related personnel.
The exam guide, fees and requirements published for the current year prevail.
